Bookmark Bastion has been Updated to Version 1.47.0
By DoggByte ·
Bookmark Bastion just got an update, and this one fixes a problem I kept running into myself: one site, more than one account.
Version 1.47.0 lets a single bookmark hold several accounts. Your personal login, your work login and the “I swear I’ll clean this up later” login can all live on the same bookmark, instead of three near-identical bookmarks that you’ll never be able to tell apart at 11pm.
What’s new
Under the login in a bookmark’s Edit dialog (or in the toolbar pop-up), there’s now an Add another account button. Each extra account gets its own username, password and authenticator key, and you can move accounts up and down or remove one when it’s had its day. You can add up to 20 per bookmark, which I’d call generous, and if you need more than that, we should talk about your life choices.
Filling one in works the way you’d hope:
- Pick from a list. When a bookmark has several accounts, the pop-up shows a list of the usernames next to the Fill button. Choose one, press Fill, done.
- It remembers. The account you used last is already selected next time, so the usual one is usually one click away.
- The shortcut doesn’t guess.
Alt+Shift+Lon a bookmark with several accounts opens the pop-up instead of picking one for you. Logging into the wrong account with a keyboard shortcut is a special kind of fun that I’d rather you didn’t have. - Copying says whose it is. The Copy menu on a card names the account each item belongs to, so “Copy password: alice” really is Alice’s.
- Browser sign-in pop-ups (the plain “username and password” boxes) are answered by the first account, since there’s nobody to ask.
Everything is still encrypted with your passphrase, same as before. If a bookmark has just one account, it’s stored exactly as it always was, so older versions and older exports still read it fine.
Is it free?
Adding more than one account to a bookmark is a Pro feature. The free version keeps one account per bookmark, and the free limit of 5 saved logins still counts bookmarks, not accounts.
And as always, nothing gets taken away. If a Pro license ends, the accounts you already saved stay readable and usable. You just can’t add more until you renew. Pro is $5 for a year or $10 for life, through Ko-fi, and the product page has the full list of what it adds.
How do I update?
Because Bookmark Bastion isn’t in the Chrome Web Store, there’s no silent update in the background. That’s on purpose, and it means you choose when:
- Export a backup first. It takes a few seconds and future you will be grateful.
- Download
bookmark-bastion-v1.47.0.zipfrom the latest release on GitHub and check it againstSHA256SUMS.txtif you like to be careful. - Unzip it over the same folder you installed from.
- Open your browser’s extensions page and reload the extension.
Your library stays where it is. Removing the extension is what deletes it, so don’t do that. Full details are in the changelog.
Happy bookmarking, whoever you’re logged in as.
